The report was prepared by PACDE members and Sally Johnstone of WCET. It studies how three universities moved from an informal to a more mature distance education organizational structure. This research serves as the background for a proposal by Sally Johnstone for a course of action for the University of Alaska.

Following the report by the SAC-appointed SWAT(StateWide Academic Team) team on distance education, President Hamilton asked SWAT members to continue their work as PACDE (President’s Ad Hoc Committee on Distance Education). This letter forms the committee and outlines some of its major goals.
24 November 2003 - Report: SWAT Team’s Recommmendations for Distance Education
SWAT (StateWide Academic Team) was formed by the SAC to assess the Distance Education White Paper and recommend future courses of action for distance education at UA. This report was in response to that request.

The SAC developed criteria for funding distance education efforts in the form of a series of questions.
13 November 2002 - The Annotated Distance Education White Paper
The Distance Education White Paper was originally developed by Elaine Sunde in 1998 (?) and has served as the basis for much of SAC’s discussion about distance education at UA since. The “annotated” version includes comments about the status of goals and projects found in the paper.
3 November 2002 - Case Study of Distance Education at UAS by Lynne Schrum and Jason Ohler (PDF version)
Through a President’s Professor endowment, Dr. Lynne Schrum was hired to work jointly with Jason Ohler (UAS) to conduct a study of attitudes toward distance education at UAS of staff, students and faculty. The full report and executive summary are available (PDF version).
2002-2003 - Report: Results of the UNAC Labor-Management Committee on Distance Education
As per the negotiated faculty contract in 2000, a group was formed to study a number of issues of importance to both faculty and administration related to distance education. This is their final report.
18 April 2002 - UAS Strategic Plan, Initiative 8: “Be a center of excellence for distance-delivered certificate and degree programs”
UAS, under the direction of the Board of Regents, was required to develop a strategic plan to guide its developoment during 2000-2010. Eight initiatives were developed, one of which addressed the role of distance education in UAS’s future. (Download Initiative 8 only)
